Dubai, The Developer’s Guide to Kitsch
Dubai has become a playground for architects, a literal sandbox. Unfortunately, however, the demand for design is greater than the supply of good ideas. Therefore, the developers are relying on simple iconographic forms rather than well thought out, formal architecture that revels in its complexity.

In order to save these developers time, I have put together a checklist of tactics that have already been used. This should help speed up their pursuit for uniqueness and the ultimate kitsch paradise.

Dubai has grown a lot in terms of architecture and development. Things will get more interesting as the city’s main goal is tourism.

I’m an urban design and planner. I can tell you much more about Masdar, having been a director of the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, and having done a prelim assessment of Masdar.
In your Dubai article, you imply that the Nouvel and Gehry buildings are in Dubai. They are planned for Abu Dhabi.
