Not a New Year’s Resolution

Sparing you from my plans of weight loss and frugality, my first post in three months – and the first of 2009 – will aim to outline my efforts toward this blog over the next few months. Fortunately, one of the great things about a blog is that it can constantly reinvent itself.

First and foremost I intend to develop a regular posting schedule. Go ahead, laugh – at least if you have a blog of your own – but my thinking here is that I will post once a week on Sunday or Monday. Let’s call this a move for dramatic effect or pure anticipation. I personally find it less effective, from my end, to post whenever I have the time. Let’s be serious I’m an architect – I need deadlines. However, if I am unable to post each Sunday or Monday I will hold that post for the following week. I’m guessing/hoping this will maintain the quality of each post and allow me to stay on a regular posting time frame.

The content may also shift due to external forces. This semester I will be teaching a course on the history of cities in addition to my Revit course. The influence may be tangential as I begin to think more about ancient cities, Haussman, Savannah, Colin Rowe and others; or directly by incorporating my students’ writing assignments into the blog. Either way, I find the potential impact exciting.

Finally, I’m also hoping to eventually convince a friend of mine to contribute blog posts. She is Portuguese and would bring a markedly different viewpoint to the discussion. Her background includes architecture, urbanism, AND landscape. Here’s to hoping.

In the end, this blog is still about me and my musings on the city – the essence will still be the same. So, if that appealed to you before, I think you will continue to enjoy taking part in agents of urbanism. Thank you for your patience while I closed out the last couple months of 2008. Happy New Year.
